About the Coffee

Rwanda continues to produce some of the most compelling coffees we taste year after year, and this lot from Huye Mountain is a beautiful example of why. Grown in Southern Rwanda and carefully processed at the Huye Mountain washing station, these naturally processed Red Bourbon cherries develop remarkable sweetness, structure, and depth.

Huye Mountain was established in 2011 to connect smallholder producers in the region with the international specialty coffee market. Today, more than 1,300 farmers contribute ripe coffee cherries throughout harvest season, with careful sorting and slow drying on raised African beds helping shape the final cup.

In the cup, Rwanda - Huye Mountain feels layered and expressive without becoming overpowering. Notes of dried stone fruit and dark chocolate are supported by warming baking spice and a creamy, syrupy body that carries through the finish. It’s the kind of coffee that works beautifully as a daily drinker while still offering plenty to slow down and appreciate.

Huye Mountain

Led by David Rubanzangabo, Huye Mountain is a private washing station established in 2011 to connect farmers in Southern Rwanda with the international specialty coffee market. Over 1,300 smallholder farmers deliver ripe coffee cherries to collection sites throughout the Huye District, where they are brought to the station for processing.

David is widely regarded as a leading figure in Rwanda’s specialty coffee industry, known for both exceptional quality and meaningful investment in the local farming community. Through quality incentives, premium payments, and ongoing social initiatives, Huye Mountain has built long-term relationships with producers while helping elevate the global reputation of Rwandan coffee.

Coffees like this are a reminder that great coffee is never just the result of terroir or processing alone. It comes from people who care deeply about the work at every stage, from harvest through export. We’re excited to continue sourcing coffees from Huye Mountain in 2026 and beyond.
